Friends,
As you are aware of the FIR filed in Manipur, on our three member fact finding team that visited the state from June 28 to 1 July, 2023, we request you to join us in protest against it. Our team’s visit was transparent, and it openly spoke about the problems the people were facing due to an inept government allowing the violence to rape, kill, destroy, plunder and desecrate. The silence of the PM and the unconcerned mainstream media are granting impunity to the rioters.
We find the FIR vindictive and malicious. It finds our demand for peace and justice to be blocking the government from performing its’ duties. The teams’ demand of accountability from the government is seen as defaming the government, and the team is charged with bias against a community, the president, CM etc..
It is to protest this attempt to criminalize fact finding by civil society, and to assert the democratic right of the civil society to highlight the irregularities of administration, that we will be staging a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. We request you to join us in solidarity and support our demand to Quash the FIR.
