We are writing this appeal to seek your support for organizing the eighth joint convention of Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) scheduled to be held on 29th, 30th and 31st December 2011 in Allahabad, UP. PIPFPD evolved in the mid nineties since our respective ruling elite seemed unwilling to move away from their mindsets, we felt that the only available course was for the people to assert themselves in favour of peace and friendship. Convinced by the fact that the six decades of strained and tottering relations between the two countries had only served to inflict severe damages to both our people, we felt that at the civil society level, we need to establish contacts with the democratic people’s organizations on both sides of the border to discuss the differences which have kept us apart and also try and find ways of developing a common approach to peace.

We expect the forthcoming eighth Joint Convention [being held in Allahabad] will generate further support for the Forum’s objectives, and hopefully influence the policies of the two governments towards peace and democracy strengthening the Governments’ efforts to normalize relationship!
