African Asian Writers Union Statement of Solidarity with India

Over the past two decades, the world has witnessed renewed violence and orthodoxy that is dragging humanity into an ocean of barbarism under the name of religion and bigotry. Radical movements of extreme rightists are slowly emerging and are propagating all over. Cells of unlawful acts going up to murders and public lynching are being created, governed by fundamentalists and extremists whose only aim is to destabilize societies and push them into a world of intolerance and madness.

India in particular has been the home of acts of repression, intimidation and harassment towards the intellectual elite in all aspects including writers, movie directors and artists. Attacks are also been perpetrated against any form of culture and intellect. These tragic events may lead the world into a chaos of fire and blood.

In the name of the moral values in which we believe, in the name of the freedom of expression and the free will, in the name of what we fight for and will continue to do so, in the name of our beliefs and convictions, we salute the Indian writers who stood high against the silence of the authorities and against their persistence to remain passive in front of these repressible acts as well as their refusal to put an end to intolerance and fanaticism.

We salute the courage of those who have said NO by which ever mean of expression, we support every movement that stands in front of obscurantism and we express our respect and admiration to those who have had the courage not to cave in.

The African Asian Writers Union supported by all its members from the two continents wish to take position in favor of Indian writers who by their act of courage have taken position and have expressed and defended their opinions and their convictions.

Déclaration de l’Union des Ecrivains d’Afrique et d’Asie en solidarité avec les Indes

Durant les deux dernières décennies, le monde a été témoin d’un regain de violence et d’orthodoxie qui est train de plonger l’humanité dans un océan de barbarie sous le couvert de la religion et de la bigoterie. Des mouvements radicaux d’extrême droite émergent et se propagent un peu partout, des foyers d’actes illicites allant jusqu’aux meurtres et au lynchage publique sont créés, gérés par des fondamentalistes et des extrémistes qui n’aspirent qu’àdéstabiliser les sociétés et a les mener vers un univers d’intolérance et de délire.

L’Inde en particulier a été le siège d’actes de répression et d’intimidation envers l’élite intellectuel sous ses divers aspects incluant les écrivains, les réalisateurs de cinéma et les artistes. Des attaques ont également été perpétrées àl’encontre de toute forme de culture et d’intellect. Ces évènements tragiques risquent de s’étendre et de faire basculer le monde dans un chaos de feu et de sang.

Au nom de toutes les valeurs morales auxquelles nous croyons, au nom de la liberté d’expression et du libre arbitre, au nom de ce pourquoi nous nous battons et continuerons àle faire, au nom de nos croyances et de nos convictions, nous saluons les écrivains indiens qui se sont dressés contre le silence des autorités et contre leur persistance àdemeurer passifs face àces actes répressibles ainsi qu’àleur refus de mettre un terme àl’intolérance et au fanatisme.

Nous saluons le courage de ceux qui ont dit NON, quel que soit leur moyen d’expression, soutenons tout mouvement qui se dresse face àl’obscurantisme et exprimons notre respect et notre admiration pour ceux qui ont eu le courage de ne pas baisser l’échine.

L’Union des Ecrivains d’Afrique et d’Asie, soutenue par ses membres des deux continents, désire prendre position en faveur des écrivains indiens qui par leurs actes de courage ont pris position et ont su exprimer et défendre leurs convictions et leurs opinions.
