Veteran journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Punjab Daily "Nawan Zamana", Jagjit Singh Anand passed away at a private hospital in Jalandhar last night after a prolonged illness. He was 95 and survived by a son and a daughter. The former Rajya Sabha Member and eminent Communist leader gave outstanding contribution to the field of journalism, literature and national politics. Anand was also a "great statesman, true Parliamentarian and above all, a fine human being with the qualities of head and heart". His stellar role in championing the cause of downtrodden and oppressed sections of the society through his pen and active politics was the hallmark of his multi-faceted personality. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Anand and shared his heartfelt condolences with his son Sukirat Singh Anand over telephone. He prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the family members, friends and relatives to bear this huge loss in this hour of grief and grant peace to the departed soul. UNI NC RJ GC1501
